Biographie

Brandon Searle, P. Eng. is the Innovation Director for the Off-site Construction Research Centre (OCRC) at the University of New Brunswick. Born in Moncton, N.B., he completed a BScE in civil engineering and a diploma in Technology Management and Entrepreneurship at the University of New Brunswick Before joining UNB, Brandon worked on capital projects from both the owner and contractor side followed by a four-year position with WSP where he was an asset management consultant. While with WSP, he worked toward an M.Eng. focusing on level of service in infrastructure management and completed a broad collection of courses in economics, project management, business, finance and engineering. Brandon serves as the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) Western NB Section Past-Chair, CSCE Atlantic Region Treasurer and sits on the Canadian Network of Asset Managers (CNAM) Board of Directors.

Durck deWinter

Senior Vice-President, Bird Construction

Durck graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in 1991. He has over 27 years of experience in the Atlantic construction markets. Durck began his career in 1991 as a project manager and estimator, quickly progressing to the role of general manager in 1994. In 1999, he became vice president of Bird's predecessor company. Durck joined Bird through the Rideau Construction acquisition in 2008. In 2013, Durck was appointed to vice president strategic development for Atlantic Canada where he actively pursued valued added projects and services to add to Bird's construction portfolio. In 2016, he was appointed to the role of senior vice president and Atlantic district manager, assuming executive leadership responsibilities for Bird's Atlantic district offices. In addition to providing executive oversight to all aspects of the Atlantic District, Durck has recently assumed executive oversite to the Winnipeg District.

Jared Smith

Electrical Engineer, CBCL

Since joining CBCL in 2011, Jared has participated in a number of projects in the healthcare, commercial, transportation, institutional, retail, industrial, and municipal sectors. His experience includes power systems, building information modeling, telecommunications, circuit design, energy efficiency measures, and renewable energy. He is also an experienced lighting designer, as well as a lighting simulation and analysis expert. Jared holds accreditation from the Green Building Certification Institute for the LEED Operation and Maintenance Accredited Professional, has been accredited as a Lighting Certified Professional by the NCQLP, is a Past President of the Halifax Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), and currently holds the position of IES District 1 Chair; comprising all Canadian sections from Ontario to Newfoundland. Mr. Smith has also been appointed to the Atlantic Chapter of the Canadian Green Building Council’s Board of Managers.

Hans Klohn

President, OSCO Construction Group

Hans is the president of OSCO Construction Group based in Saint John, NB. The group and its subsidiaries design, manufacture and install concrete and steel components used in structural steel, precast concrete and cast-in-place concrete framing systems. The Group also provides specialty trade contracting services in the areas of civil, electrical, instrumentation and voice & data cabling. He has served on various community, educational and trade association boards including: Governor of UNB and Chairman of the Canadian Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (CPCI). Hans received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from UNB. He has a Master of Engineering (Civil) from the University of Alberta and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario. He is a registered Professional Engineer in New Brunswick and was inducted as a Fellow by the CPCI in recognition of outstanding service rendered to the industry.

Arnold Wood

Air Terminal Infrastructure Manager Planning & Infrastructure Department, Halifax Stanfield

Arnold Wood is a Civil Engineer and has with more than 30 years of experience in the design and construction industry. His experience includes time with the Federal and Provincial government, Consultant office, Construction industry including heavy civil marine, and most recently as the Air Terminal Infrastructure Manger responsible for aerodrome planning and terminal expansion. Arnold has embraced BIM to streamline and enhance the design and construction process at Halifax International Airport Authority.
