The Vancouver office of Smith + Andersen is currently seeking an experienced BIM Coordinator. The BIM Coordinator works with Smith + Andersen’s national network of BIM Leaders, managed by the BIM Manager and National BIM Manager. The BIM Coordinator is focused on national work-sharing, standardization, optimization and guiding internal/external design collaboration and data harnessing throughout a project lifecycle.

Does this sound like you? If so, here are some of the more detailed responsibilities you can expect in this position:

  • Assist and support project teams in the production of models along with the analysis, creation and management of the Building Information Model(s) and two-dimensional drawings.
  • Sets up and manages S+A’s models including individual drawing sheets, views, view templates, and filters.
  • Participate in internal BIM meetings with project teams; ensure team is working to the project’s BIM Execution Plan and S+A’s Level of Development matrix.
  • Assist project teams with model interoperability from all internal and external design disciplines.
  • Monitor and perform model health checks to ensure teams are optimizing the performance of their models.
  • Audit internal design models to ensure the production team is modelling to S+A standards including cleaned families being loaded, custom content is adhered to, and modelling best practices are followed.
  • Participate and/or lead internal BIM training sessions for designers, engineers and technicians. Assist in the development of training documents.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance and advancement of S+A BIM content (templates, families, parameters, scripts, etc). Assist the BIM Manager in conducting lunch and learn sessions to inform S+A staff of new content.
  • Assist in project model and drawing production when required.

A few more qualifications which will help you with these responsibilities:

  • College diploma in Architecture, Mechanical or Electrical building service program; or a related field with relevant work experience.
  • Strong understanding of the industry installation practices for mechanical and electrical systems so that what is created in BIM is a close representation to what a contractor can build on site.
  • Familiar with building sector services such as plumbing systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, lighting, power and systems and communications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; able to communicate with the design team and external BIM teams or clients.
  • Able to work in environment driven by project deadlines and the ability to maintain deadlines.
  • Highly innovative and motivated with an attention to detail and an ability to accept direction.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
