Position Overview

Aecon Construction Group Inc. is Canada’s largest, publicly traded construction and infrastructure Development Company. Aecon and its subsidiaries provide services to private and public-sector clients throughout Canada and on a selected basis internationally.

  • To provide support and co-ordination across all technical work streams, during each stage of a project from Design through to construction. Technical work streams may include but are not limited to; all engineering disciplines, design management, digital engineering, sustainability, engineering surveying, asset management and industrialization.  
  • The role will be the link between the Client’s technical team, the consultant design team, Aecon (and any JV partner) and any sub-contractors design team. The role will support the projects IDD or BIM lead to enable Integrated Digital Delivery outcomes to ensure the information is delivered to program and coordinated between engineering disciplines, organizations and packages.
  • To complete validation reports to verify Information Models in accordance with BS1192 and PAS1192:2/3/5 for the Integrated Digital Delivery Director or Project IDD/ BIM Lead.

Key Responsibilities

Aecon Minimum Accountabilities:

  • Coordination and Implementation of the Integrated Digital Delivery process according to Aecon procedures, including development of Pre and Post contract IDD Strategy’s and Execution Plan’s.
  • Coordination of Consultant and supply chain Information Models and Delivery Plans to support the development of federated models and against agreed deliverables to ensure supply chain IDD deliverables in line with the Aecon IDD requirements and ‘Employers Information Requirements’.
  • Supporting the IDD Director/ IDD Manager or project BIM lead to ensure the correct activities are assigned to the consultant supply chains Information Managers.
  • Providing Coordination reports of the interfaces between engineering disciplines / design and construction / temporary and permanent works design activities, through the IDD process.  
  • Coordination and development of the design to Construction through IDD processes such as 5D/ 4D to ensure consideration and optimisation of the opportunities for sustainability, digital engineering, buildability, carbon, logistics, industrialisation designing for maintenance and health, safety and welfare during construction and in-use.
  • Run IDD tools training workshops to enable people to deliver their responsibilities in relation to Aecon IDD Strategy.

Project Specific Accountabilities:

  • Facilitate with the start-up and implementation of IDD process on a project level with the assistance, guidance and oversight of the project IDD or BIM lead and Aecon IDD Director
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and Construction Managers to develop a project specific process for utilizing or creating 3D information for estimating, logistics, planning, scheduling, coordination, field layout and/or facilitates management.
  • Create project specific protocols regarding communication and data exchange, nomenclature, format, 3D workspace orientation to ensure interoperability as required.
  • Facilitate consultant and trades through multiple project phases with Digital logistic construction management process.
  • Assist in the creation of project specific contract language for tender packages for 3D submission process and 3D as-builts for facilities management.
  • Obtain quotes from vendors and outsourcing resources to meet requirements for newly awarded construction project.
  • Review, coordinate and manage the creation of Project Information Models.
  • Project deployment duties include; installing software, organizing, maintaining and setting up CAD exchange environments, basic training & support for project team, coordination assistance, file conversions and documenting process and solutions for reuse.
  • Champion 3D coordination on active job site, act as liaison with project team, consultants and subcontractors to facilitate process and maintain Master Project BIM database.
  • Collaborate with the Scheduling department to build and maintain 4D scheduling model.
  • Identify opportunities and recommend solutions that will enhance or improve processes.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Educational and Industry experience requirements include; Engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training plus experience/knowledge of Civil Construction practice.
  • Proficiency with model federation platforms such as Assemble Systems, Navisworks and Bentley Navigator.
  • Proficiency in BIM authoring tools such as REVIT, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley AecoSim.
  • Proficiency in 4D platforms such as Navisworks simulate and Synchro.
  • Proficiency in 5D QTO and Cost assignment tolls would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of Common Data Environments such as ProjectWise and Aconex.
  • Detailed understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards etc. and their impact on project activities is vital.
  • Working knowledge of EHS regulations.
  • Experience across all stages of a project lifecycle would be desirable.
  • Experience of working within construction project environments would be desirable.
  • Experience of large complex projects in infrastructure would be desirable.
  • Understanding design and construction phases and alignment with the Digital Plan of Works would be desirable.
  • Project experience in implementation BIM process in accordance with PAS1192:2 and Institute for BIM in Canada toolkits would be desirable.
  • On-site construction experience would be desirable
  • Strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, influence etc.) skills are essential.  
  • Excellent customer service skills, a passion for problem ownership, and a customer-first attitude.
  • Proven experience in priority setting, multitasking, and working with minimal direct supervision.  
  • Bilingual (French and English) would be desirable
  • Ability to travel to site, mobile for projects.
