Summary

PME Inc., a subsidiary of EllisDon Corporation, was awarded the site service contract for the Capital Line South LRT Sewer relocation in Edmonton. Underground water pipes needed to be relocated to give the rail tracks the right of way. Crewscope was invited to pilot the program with this crew in March 2023, with work expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Problem

Labor productivity in Construction has been declining for a generation. The labor crisis has exaggerated this challenge. This is particularly challenging for the PME division of EllisDon Industrial, as their leader, Richard Hanna, was set on a significant growth path by hiring its self-performing crews to take on more incoming jobs.

Hiring, retaining, and keeping workers productive was a challenge that got Richard to collaborate with Calvin Benchimol, co-founder of Crewscope, in implementing a solution to connect workers with the job and reward them when they plan and deliver against the plan.

Solution

The solution was a site planning and communication software platform that would enable site leaders to:

  • Set milestones
  • Communicate progress toward the set milestones daily
  • Reward and Recognize the crew when the milestones are hit

This effectively implemented a team-based performance incentive program along with goal setting and communication to support it.
