This presentation will summarize Alberta Infrastructure's BIM and Digital Project Delivery initiatives that have taken place over the last two years. Topics to be covered include what has been accomplished to date, lessons learned, challenges, success stories and a preview of future initiatives. Specific topics to be covered include the Province's BIM requirements and consultant deliverables, procurement challenges and how they're being overcome, how digital project delivery is being addressed for smaller projects, the value of detailed asset information throughout the project lifecycle, and the importance of a fully digital handover.
The presentation will focus on the role of the BIM Consultant as a QA/QC independent third party for this project which involved the design and construction of a new below-grade campus Power Plant to LEED Gold standards on the existing Lions Gate Hospital campus (2 levels). Project is currently under construction.
In this presentation we will look at all the different ways BIM was implemented in the design of the Children's Hospital, specific to:
Back in 2008 when Group2 began using BIM the main output was the 3D model for client and design team visualization. Since this time the use of BIM at Group2 has evolved from a 3D modelling tool to an information-intensive tool where use the of BIM transfers directly from the design to the job site. BIM now impacts the design process in multiple ways including functional programming through the use of DRofus to Real-Time Rendering and VR add-ins like Enscape to the integration on the Construction site using technology such as PlanGrid or Viewpoint for Field View. The presentation will describe multiple Group2 projects which will show the evolution in the use of BIM at Group2.
This presentation will run through the basic requirements involved in getting a drone program up and running and provide detail of the ways UAVs benefit construction projects. Real world use cases and examples will be discussed including:
Are you looking to sharpen your understanding of what BIM is, or review how BIM can benefit your company? This workshop aims to provide a better understanding of the basics of BIM, then moving into practical concepts and workflows, which have been proven effective globally.
Evolving project delivery brings quick changes in process methodology. Understand how new processes and changes in the working culture are opening opportunities to a more collaborative and integrated way of delivering projects. The dynamics are different today and continuously moving to a more collaborative working philosophy. BIM is moving stakeholders out of their silos with a different workflow. Learn how some AEC leaders are managing the process of interoperability and collaboration in a successful way including the design team and contractor/trades through BIM Project Execution Plan.
BIM is transforming architecture, engineering, and construction. Yet, many Building Owners are not seeing the full benefit of data flowing through the building lifecycle from design and construction to facilities management. Why not? This workshop will work through the steps that need to be considered to control this new digital process so that the maximum benefits can be reaped. Starting from the very beginning – what the definition of BIM should be for Building Owners – this is a fast-paced, interactive session: 1) Demonstrates why you can’t afford to ignore BIM from a business case perspective; 2) Offers insights into the challenges for an Owner and how to overcome them; 3) Delivers a practical outline for defining a BIM process that meets expectations; 4) Offers proven tactics for reaping the rewards of BIM in Facilities Management.

Be part of the discussions as we look at benefits of BIM and some of its obstacles including: 1) What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of BIM as an Owner?.. Architect?.. Consultant?.. Builder? 2) What are some BIM processes and workflows for all stakeholders? 3) Does using Revit mean you are BIM-ing? 4) What does BIM really mean for you in the industry?
